What is sikkerpånettet.dk (Secure on the net)?

Sikkerpånettet.dk helps you check whether your internet, your email server and internet connection are up to date. As the domain owner, you are responsible for the security of your website and your email server - both for your own sake and for the sake of your users. Sikkerpånettet.dk checks whether modern and reliable standards are used on your website, your email server and internet connection.

The tool also helps you do something about it. Take the test, it doesn't take much more than 10 seconds.

Sikkerpånettet.dk has been brought to the Danish part of the internet by Punktum dk in collaboration with a number of partners as part of the work to promote internet development. On sikkerpånettet.dk you can test how secure a website, an email server or a connection is. Our focus has been to create a tool that is more than just a test. It should also provide knowledge about how you can work to make a website or an email server a little more secure. The test covers the most important aspects, but not all. By doing something about what the test shows, you can contribute to making that part of the internet more secure. The test shows the results on a scale of up to 100%.

It is important to remember that there may be relevant reasons why you should not land on 100%. As with so much else, when it comes to security, it is a trade-off between accessibility and security.

Target group

Sikkerpånettet.dk is mainly aimed at companies, organizations and associations that use a domain name for a website or an email server. That is, a domain name that has user and customer traffic. With the tool, you can get help to improve security and offer your users slightly more secure services.

Recommended security measures

Sikkerpånettet.dk supports modern internet standards and recommended security measures from the Center for Cybersecurity. Several of the security measures tested here are required to be followed by government authorities. However, the security measures are good to follow for everyone, both private, companies of all sizes and in the rest of public Denmark.

Technological partner The test tool is originally an initiative from the Dutch Internet Standards Platform and the Dutch government (internet.nl). NLnet Labs is responsible for developing the underlying technical platform, which is operated in the Netherlands by Prolocation.

What are internet standards?

In order to exchange data between computers all over the world, we need international agreements on how computers talk to each other. The digital "plugs and sockets" that connect it all, so to speak. These agreements are called Internet standards or Internet protocols. One example is SMTP, the recognized protocol for email traffic. This technical core behind the Internet is invisible, and unknown to most, but is essential for a functional Internet today and in the future.

Why is it so important to stay up to date?

The original Internet standards date back to the 70s and 80s, when the number of Internet users was very limited. Today, there are more than 3 billion! And these people are using the Internet more and more for transactions, with sensitive and valuable information. The outdated standards can neither keep up with the volume of traffic nor the security. For example, criminals are abusing the SMTP standard for email fraud. This means that we need to start using new, smarter standards that can keep our Internet reliable. The good news is that they exist.
